Valentine 2021!

It was Valentine's day! When it's the busiest day of the year for flower deliveries, we found ourselves in a major Snowpocalypse! One that PDX has not had in the longest time!

In the midst of all the challenges of driving out in the snow and ice, the spirit of Oregonians’ kindness is something that inspired me so greatly, I am posting this story on my blog to share!

My car got stuck in the snow on the morning of Valentine's day and I prayed that this wasn't going to end my day. All the people who saw me came to help me out. After trying to spiral out of snow with no luck, finally one wise old gentleman told me to back paddle and find another route and that worked like a charm! I thought I was finished for the day! I was stuck in thinking only going forward was the way to reach a destination. Learned something valuable!

On another delivery, I had to climb down a slope to deliver the flowers because so many children were sleighing and playing, I didn’t want to drive down there. Parked my car up on the hill. Two women came immediately to aid me in hiking down, they held my arms on each side so I won’t skid and fall carrying a big and heavy arrangement. I was amazed at such kindness!

And one customer offered to pick up his flowers because he was concerned for me and my driving in the snow. He said he had a 4 wheel pick up truck and is used to these conditions. And that his house was on a hilly road where I had to deliver. I was so touched by his kindness. Just really touched beyond words. I must be living in Oregon.

Yes, it’s been a difficult Valentine with all the deliveries in the snow! But I delivered them all myself!! One customer told me that he hoped I was getting paid overtime for hiking in the snow as I was approaching his house. I told him that I am the owner and that I would not even dream of asking any employee to do this! He had come out of his house when he saw me to meet me halfway on the slope. He was a very kind man!

And I am so grateful that I can say everyone got their flowers and I made it out alive! My heart is filled with inspirations from all the kindness I received! What a true and unique Valentine for me.

A few times I did ask myself why I couldn’t just suspend all deliveries until road conditions improved like a normal person would? Or a smart one for that matter. I couldn’t answer myself. I am really not sure why.
