The Meaning of Kawa

I am looking forward to the "Opening Day" of my new floral studio! Even though my website is already up and running, November 2nd, Friday is when my studio will be officially open! People have been passing by, peeking their heads in and saying hello. They all had such kind words for me, and I was so happy to meet these friendly folks, I just love this neighborhood! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming!

People have asked me, "So what does Kawa mean?" Well, that is my daughter's name and since she is my biggest inspiration, it came naturally for me. And I learned that it can mean a few different things in different languages. Let me give you the meaning in Korean first since that is how it started. In Korea, when you say your name, you always say your family name first and then your first name. So when our daughter's full name is spoken in Korean, it means "Happy to See You!"  In English, It's kind of like if someone's first name is Mary and the last name is Christmas. Or if the first name is Summer and the last name is Breeze. Cute, right? I checked with other languages to make sure that Kawa did not mean anything negative. So with a quick search on the internet, I found out that Kawa means "River" in Japanese. Okay I love rivers, check. Kawa also means "Great" in Indian language. Okay, I love great! Check. So with confidence we named our daughter, Kawa! And a few years later I learned something new. I was chatting with a Polish friend and that is when she told me that Kawa is coffee in their language. Okay, that I did not know. Coffee! Ummm okay I love coffee! Check! Coffee Flowers, why not? Maybe I will start serving coffee at my studio!  So there you go, now you know what it means in three different languages.
